In 1972, Iowa voters approved a constitutional amendment to create the State of Iowa Commission on Judicial Qualifications. The next year, the Iowa General Assembly established the commission and approved the laws governing due process for Iowa judges, magistrates and judicial branch employees accused of misconduct. The commission is an independent entity, separate from the judicial, legislative and executive branches of government.
